Sleeping Beauty:

The day's stubborn mask is lifted
By sleep's sweet comfort...
Oh, how beautiful is your fragility.
I kiss your sleeping lips,
Run my fingers through your hair,
Hold you close and breathe you in...
Oh, how humbling
To hold your entire world in your arms.
How at ease you seem
Lying against my chest.
I want to wrap myself around you,
Hide you and defend you,
Keep you safe within me...
But day will come again,
And my sleeping beauty will awake
To go back behind her mask
Of forged reality---
But, oh, no matter the days
That will forever come and go,
Because I will always know
What lies beneath.
